CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga tennis freshman Arianna Sanjines outlasted Belmont’s Kelly Pence, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 singles Saturday to deliver a 4-3 victory for the Lady Mocs.
The match, played indoors at the Hixson Racquet Club, lasted six and one half hours, and Sanjines and Pence were the last two players on the court.
The Lady Mocs, who improve to 3-1 on the season, found themselves down 3-1 after losing the doubles point and two of the top three singles matches.
Chattanooga senior Bonnie Adams bested Lindsay Bennett, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to trim the deficit to 3-2, and freshman Annie Green tied the score with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 5 over Katie Rhodes.
Sanjines lost the first set but battled back to lose only three games in the final two sets to push Chattanooga over the top.
The Lady Mocs also needed a three-set victory from senior Lindsey Ballard at No. 1 singles. Ballard was down a set and trailed in the second before coming on strong to claim a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win. It marked the 49th career dual-match victory for Ballard, a native of Lilburn, Ga.
The Bruins, 1-2, won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point, and captured wins at singles positions two and three. Whitnie Warren defeated junior Beata Knizat at No. 2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Tatiana Pozo beat freshman Grace Robinette, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Lady Mocs visit Middle Tennessee Tuesday at 6 p.m.

DAVIDSON, N.C. ? The Davidson women’s tennis team scored its third and fourth straight wins of 7-0 with victories over visiting Wingate and Queens on Saturday afternoon at the Knobloch Tennis Center on the campus of Davidson College.
The Wildcats ran their 2008 record to 5-1 with the two wins, while Wingate and Queens both fell to 0-2 on the season.
Davidson dropped just one doubles game and a combined six singles games in the two matches on Saturday afternoon.
Finish the day with perfect 2-0 marks in singles play was junior Lora Dushanova and freshman Samantha Galainena at the No. 4 and 5 spots. Neither Wildcat dropped a game in taking two 6-0, 6-0 sets over their opponents. Dushanova also teamed with Meredith Skeeters at the No. 3 doubles spot in the first match vs. Wingate, taking home an 8-0 win to help Davidson take the doubles team point on its way to the 7-0 victory. Galainena was seeing her first spring collegiate action after capturing two individual singles titles in the fall.
Also playing for the first time this spring was junior Emily Wilkinson, who defeated Ashley Keefer of Wingate at No. 6 singles,6-0, 6-2, for her first victory of 2008.
Picking up her team-best fourth singles win of the season was senior Kim Whelan when she secured a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2singles against Queens' Skye Powell. Two of those wins have come at the No. 2 singles position.
Finally, earning their third wins of the season in singles play was Skeeters, junior Michelle Fanney, and the sophomore combo of Teresa Wang and Virginia Berry. Davidson hits the road for its next two matches, starting with a trip to No. 60 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. on Saturday,Feb. 16 at 11 a.m.

BLACKSBURG, Va. ? Deanna Bailey and Anna Milian each emerged victorious in both singles and doubles action Friday evening as Elon overcame Radford for a 4-3 non-conference women’s tennis victory at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.
Bailey dispatched Ivana Tomaic 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Milian ? the reigning Southern Conference Athlete of the Month ? staved off Camila Noldin 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 and Hayley Wahl topped Ally Spector 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 as the Phoenix (3-2) won for the third time in as many matches.
Bailey and Milian defeated Noldin and Tomaic 8-5 at No. 1 while Paige Kensrue and Laura Graybill posted an 8-5 triumph over Ashton Downs and Mirna Matic at No. 3, giving Elon the doubles point. The Highlanders (2-1) picked up a win at No. 2 when Cassandra Price and Paige Lindsley out-dueled Wahl and Jennifer Tucci 9-7.
Radford received singles victories at No. 2 (Lindsley over Kensrue 6-4, 6-4), No. 4 (Downs over Tucci, 6-3, 7-5) and No. 5 (Matic over Graybill 6-1, 6-3), but it proved to be not enough as the Highlanders suffered their first setback of the season.
BLACKSBURG, Va. ? No. 64 Virginia Tech swept its way through all nine matches Saturday afternoon, defeating Elon 7-0 in non-conference women’s tennis action at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Hokies (5-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Phoenix (3-3) by claiming the doubles point. The teams of Jessica Brouwer and Yasmin Hamza (over Deanna Bailey and Anna Milian 8-5 at No. 1), Abbey Walker and Bethan James (over Jennifer Tucci and Hayley Wahl 8-3 at No. 2) and Chelsea Cramp and Inga Beermann (over Paige Kensrue and Laura Graybill 8-3 at No. 3) were all victorious.
In singles action, Jessica Long (over Bailey 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1), Walker (over Kensrue 6-3, 7-6 (2) at No. 2), J.J. Larson (over Milian 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3), Holly Johnson (over Tucci 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4), James (over Graybill 6-3, 7-6 (5) at No. 5) and Natalie Kretzer (over Wahl 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6) all won.
Virginia Tech will open its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule at 2 p.m. Sunday when No. 50 Virginia visits the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Next Saturday, Barton (9 a.m.) and North Carolina A&T (3 p.m.) will visit Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Georgia Southern 7, Kennesaw State 0
KENNESAW, Ga. ? A solid team performance helped the Georgia Southern women’s tennis team earn their first victory of the season on Saturday, as they downed the Owls of Kennesaw State, 7-0, in Kennesaw.
The Eagles (1-3, 0-0 SoCon) got things rolling during doubles play. GSU swept all three matches earning the doubles point taking the early advantage. Sophomore Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) and Christine Caforio (Acworth, Ga.) defeated Ayano Tanaka and Agatha Palider 8-2 at the No. 1 singles position.
The freshmen duo of Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) and Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) upended Kennesaw State’s tandem of Mercedes Cobos and Paula Takara 8-4. Molly Maddox (Rome, Ga.) and Jessica Matlosz (Alpharetta, Ga.) rounded out the doubles competiton as they took down Allison Baulis and Lindsay Dillon by a final of 8-1.
“I was proud of the girls for coming back after three tough losses,” said GSU head coach Amy Bonner. “Everyone was fired up and competed hard. I hope this will help us get on a roll as the season progresses.”
In singles action, Georgia Southern was equally as impressive as the Eagles didn’t lose a match to the Owls. Junior Shea Huxtable (Winter Springs, Fla.) and Rolle both used three sets to defeat their opponents. Huxtable defeated Karen Ammann 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 at the No. 5 position, while Rolle beat Tanaka 0-6, 6-1, 6-2 from the No. 2 slot. Jessica Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) improved her record to (2-1) on the season as she handled Kennesaw State’s Jenna Wright 6-3, 6-1.
The Eagles return to action (Feb. 17) as they play host to Mercer. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
