Guard Drained a SoCon-Record Nine Triples Against Appalachian State
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Davidson guard Alex Thompson has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from Dec. 2-8.
Thompson set a SoCon record with nine three-pointers in the Wildcats’ 95-75 win at Appalachian State on Dec. 6. The junior totaled 35 points, six rebounds and six assists against ASU while connecting on 9-of-12 attempts from three-point range. A native of Asheville, N.C., Thompson began the week with 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds in a 67-57 win over Furman on Dec. 2. In all, she averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game as the Wildcats moved to 2-0 on the season in conference play.
The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.
Other top performers during the week were UNC Greensboro’s Gini Grimsley, Georgia Southern’s Ashley Melson, Samford’s Savannah Hill, College of Charleston’s Tonia Gerty, Appalachian State’s Brittany Mixon, Western Carolina’s Emily Clarke, Wofford’s Mahagony Williams, Elon’s Courtney Medley and Chattanooga’s Jenaya Wade-Fray.
