SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Davidson’s Stephen Curry has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games December 2-8 the league office announced Tuesday (Dec. 9). Curry helped Davidson earn a 72-67 victory over NC State on Saturday (Dec. 6) in Charlotte. He tied his career high with 44 points, setting a new collegiate scoring record for most points at Time Warner Arena. Curry now owns facility scoring records at four different arenas including Holmes Center (Appalachian State), RBC Center, Time Warner Arena and Lloyd Noble Center (Oklahoma). The victory gave Davidson their first win over an ACC foe since defeating North Carolina 58-54 during the 2001-02 season.
Curry leads the nation in scoring with 31.3 points per game and ranks sixth nationally in three-point field goals per game (3.9). The Charlotte native averages 3.0 steals per game which ranks 12th nationally. Curry has scored at least 25 points in 10 of his last 11 games.
Davidson (6-1) returns to action Tuesday night when the Wildcats face West Virginia at Madison Square Garden in the Jimmy V Classic.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State’s Isaac Butts, The Citadel’s Cameron Wells, College of Charleston’s Antwaine Wiggins, Elon’s Chris Long, Western Carolina’s Brigham Waginger and Wofford’s Noah Dahlman.
