Chattanooga Forward Averaged a Double-Double in Three Games

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga junior forward Shanara Hollinquest has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from Dec. 16-22.

Hollinquest averaged 14.7 points and 10 rebounds per contest in three games last week, recording double-doubles in two of her three outings. The Sylacauga, Ala., native registered 20 points and 12 rebounds in the Lady Mocs’ 70-51 win over Elon on Dec. 17, running UTC’s SoCon win streak to 26 games. Following a win over San Francisco in Cancun, Mexico on Dec. 19, Hollinquest tallied 14 markers and 13 boards versus Missouri State the next afternoon.

An all-SoCon performer a season ago, Hollinquest currently leads the league in scoring (16.1) and field goal percentage (56.3) and ranks third in rebounding (8.5).

Other top performers during the week were Appalachian State’s Sam Ramirez, College of Charleston’s Tonia Gerty, Furman’s Melissa Liebschwager, Georgia Southern’s J’Lisia Ogburn, UNC Greensboro’s Gini Grimsley, Samford’s Monica Maxwell and Western Carolina’s Brooke Johnson.
