SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro volleyball player Kaitlyn Nortz has been named this week’s Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Nortz, who has a 3.34 GPA in international business, helped lead the Spartans to a pair of 3-0 sweeps against Appalachian State and Western Carolina last weekend. The senior hit .450 for the weekend and notched 14 kills in the win against the Catamounts. Nortz also broke the school record for career blocks with 555 and is third in kills. The win over ASU gave the Spartans their first season-series sweep over the Mountaineers since 1995.
Also nominated for this week’s award were Davidson women’s cross country runner Caroline Sanker, Appalachian State men’s cross country runner Josh Houser, Western Carolina women’s soccer player Bri Cunningham, Chattanooga men’s cross country runner Chris Berry, Samford women’s cross country runner Hillary Neal and Georgia Southern football player Adrian Mora.
