Furman?s Melissa Liebschwager Named Player of the Week

Senior Guard Averaged 14.7 Points Over Three Games

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman guard Melissa Liebschwager averaged 14.7 points per game while leading Furman to a 2-1 record last week and has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games from November 18-24.

 

Liebschwager began the week with 16 points and five rebounds in the Lady Paladins’ 71-30 win over UNC Asheville and followed that performance with a 14-point, seven-rebound effort in a victory against South Carolina State. In Furman’s only loss of the week, a setback at No. 14 Texas, the senior tallied a team-high 14 points and three steals. On the week, the Memphis, Tenn., native shot 55.6 percent from the floor while making 5-of-11 three-point attempts and 9-of-9 shots from the foul line.

 

The player of the week is selected by a vote of the league’s women’s basketball sports information directors.

 

Other top performers in the opening week of play were Samford’s Savannah Hill, Chattanooga’s Shanara Hollinquest, Western Carolina’s Emily Clarke, Appalachian State’s Frances Hernandez, College of Charleston’s Brooke Kotcella, Elon’s Amber Wall, Georgia Southern’s Jessica Geiger and UNC Greensboro’s Lakiah Hyson.
