SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Davidson’s Stephen Curry has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games November 18-24 the league office announced Tuesday (Nov. 25). Curry helped the Wildcats go 2-1 last week, picking up wins over Winthrop and Florida Atlantic and suffering their only loss of the season at then-No. 14 Oklahoma. It is the tenth time in his career Curry has won the weekly award.
The junior from Charlotte averaged 36.7 points over three games last week, including a career-high 44 points against the Sooners. He shot 50 percent from the field and went 16-for-36 (.444) from three-point range. Curry tallied 20 assists and five steals over the three games. He tied the school record by making all 14 free throw attempts against Oklahoma. Curry leads the Southern Conference in scoring (35.0 ppg), assists (7.8 apg), steals (3.6 spg), and made three pointers per game (4.6). He has scored at least 25 points in each of his last nine games dating back to last season and has reached the 30-point plateau in each of his last four games.
The Wildcats continue play in the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off Tuesday night when they host Loyola (Md.). The Wildcats will then have 10 days off before facing NC State in Charlotte.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State’s Kellen Brand, Chattanooga’s Nicchaeus Doaks, The Citadel’s Cameron Wells, College of Charleston’s Andrew Goudelock, Elon’s Brett James, Western Carolina’s Brandon Giles and Wofford’s Junior Salters.
