Three-time defending national champion and 2008 SoCon champion Appalachian State was rewarded with the No. 2 seed and a home date against South Carolina State in the first round of the FCS Playoffs, it was announced Sunday evening. Wofford, the SoCon’s second-place finisher, also earned a berth to the postseason, but the 9-2 Terriers were chosen to travel to No. 1 seed James Madison.
Appalachian State (10-2, 8-0 SoCon) will entertain South Carolina State (10-2, 8-0 MEAC) at noon ET in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU. ASU is making its 16th appearance in the FCS Playoffs while South Carolina State is making its first playoff appearance since reaching the quarterfinals in 1982.
Wofford (9-2, 7-1 SoCon) will visit top-seeded James Madison (10-1, 8-0 CAA) Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va., at a time to be announced. The Terriers are making their second consecutive postseason appearance after reaching the quarterfinals last season. James Madison won the 2004 national championship and lost in the first round last season to Appalachian State.
