Duquesne 85, Furman 65

 

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- Aaron Jackson paced four Duquesne players in double figures with 20 points to lead the Dukes past Furman 85-65 in men’s basketball action Sunday afternoon at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

 

With the Dukes lead trimmed to 50-44 on an Alex Opacic layup with 15:52 remaining in the game, Duquesne reeled off a 21-4 run and held Furman to just one field goal over the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach and open up a 71-48 advantage.

 

Jackson connected on 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-5 attempts at the foul line for his game-high 20 points to go with 10 rebounds.  Damian Saunders scored 15 while Bill Clark and Eric Evans each added 14 for the Dukes.  Duquesne shot 51.7% (31-60) from the field, 36.4% (8-22) from the three-point line and 15-of-22 from the charity stripe to improve to 3-0 on the season.

 

Jordan Miller led Furman in scoring for the third straight game with 14 points, including 6-of-8 shooting at the line.  Noah States and Connor Nolte each added 10 points while Alex Opacic contributed eight points and eight rebounds.

 

Furman held a 31-30 edge on the boards but committed 16 turnovers to just seven by Duquesne.

 

The Paladins continue their four-game road trip at Dartmouth on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

 

 
Fairfield 61, Chattanooga 42

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Greg Nero scored 17 points to lead Fairfield to a 61-42 victory over Chattanooga on Sunday.

In addition, Herbie Allen scored 9 points for Fairfield (2-3) and Jonathan Han added 8.


Chattanooga, which extends its winless streak to five games, was led by Nicchaeus Doaks who scored 15 points. Khalil Hartwell scored another 11 points for Chattanooga.


Fairfield was first on the scoreboard during the game with a 3-pointer by Han and the team stayed in the lead throughout. By the end of the first half, Fairfield had a 25-16 lead.

 

 

Wofford 74, Air Force 61

 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ? The Wofford College men’s basketball team defeated Air Force 74-61 to win the Reggie Minton Air Force Classic on Sunday afternoon. Junior Salters had a career-high 28 points in the game.

 

Wofford is 2-2 overall and Air Force is 3-1 on the season. The Terriers were led by Junior Salters with 28 points on 7-of-13 from three. Brad Loesing had ten points and Noah Dahlman had twelve points, while Tim Johnson led the squad with nine rebounds. Air Force was led by Matt Holland with 13 points and Evan Washington with seven rebounds.

 

Wofford trailed by nine points with 2:34 remaining in the first half. The Terriers went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 29-29 at the break, which included a three by Junior Salters and three-point plays by Noah Dahlman and Drew Crowell.

 

Air Force was able to regain the lead early in the second half, going up 33-31, before the Terriers had another scoring spurt. This time, the Falcons were outscored 13-0 in a span of three minutes, and were never able to recover. Air Force got no closer than nine points the rest of the way, while trailing by as many as 20.

 

Wofford shot 42 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from three. The Falcons shot 38 percent from the floor and 28 percent from behind the arc. Wofford had a slim 31-30 advantage on the boards. Wofford had only nine turnovers in the game.

 

Junior Salters was named the MVP of the Reggie Minton Air Force Classic. Noah Dahlman also was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

 

The Terriers will open the home slate on November 25 against UNC Asheville at 7:00 pm.
