SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman basketball player Lee Stephens has been tabbed the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Stephens helped lead the Lady Paladins to a 2-0 record during the first week of the season. The junior guard scored a career-high 34 points in Furman’s 82-68 upset of ACC member Clemson last Friday. She shot 10-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. It was the first 30-point game for a Furman player since 1999. On Tuesday night, Stephens dropped in 17 points as the Lady Paladins beat UNC Asheville, 71-30. Stephens sports a 3.378 GPA and is a double major in accounting and Spanish.
