SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The 2008 Southern Conference Volleyball Championship field has been set after the 18-match regular-season ended today. The tournament will be hosted by UNC Greensboro and be held in the Spartans’ home gym, Fleming Gymnasium.

The tournament is set to begin Friday, with four matches on tap. The first match will begin at 10 a.m. with the South Division’s No. 2 seed, Furman, facing off against the North Division’s No. 3 seed, Chattanooga. The second match features SoCon newcomer and North Division No.1 seed, Samford, meeting the No. 4 team from the South Division, Davidson. The third match has the South Division No. 1 seed and defending SoCon Tournament Champion, College of Charleston, meeting North Division No. 4 seed, Elon. The final match of day one features the host Spartans, the North Division No. 2 seed, meeting the South Division No. 3 seed, Georgia Southern.

Two semifinal matches will take place on Saturday, with the final scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Last season the College of Charleston Cougars defeated UNC Greensboro, 3-1, to take the 2007 tournament title.
