CHARLESTON, S.C. ? The College of Charleston softball program and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that three Cougars have been named to the 2008 Girls Got Game/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete team. The award recognizes the accomplishments of the student-athlete both on the field and in the classroom.

Junior outfielder Kristi Woodall (Huntersville, N.C.) led the way for the Cougars  with a 3.909 GPA and finished the 2008 season with 27 runs scored and 27 RBIs while sophomore pitcher Alexa Datko (San Diego, Calif.) recorded a 3.709 GPA. In the pitching circle, Datko made 25 appearances and registered a 2-2 record, 5.40 ERA, two saves and 21 strikeouts in 41.2 innings pitched.

Sophomore utility player Katie Nutaitis’(Vienna, Va.) 3.387 GPA earned her a spot on the team following a strong freshman campaign. She started all 66 games and finished second in homeruns (5), third on the team in RBIs (25), doubles (10), at bats (188) and was fourth with a .266 batting average and 50 hits.

All three players return for the 2009 season and are expected to fill key roles as the College of Charleston pursues a Southern Conference Championship.
