SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Elon men’s soccer player Steven Kinney has been named this week’s Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Kinney, a defender, led the Phoenix to a 3-0 shutout victory over Wofford in the first round of the SoCon Tournament last Saturday. The first-team all-SoCon selection tallied two assists in the win, which doubled his season total. The Phoenix advanced to play in the SoCon Tournament semifinals on Friday against College of Charleston.

Also nominated for this week’s award were Chattanooga volleyball player Jessica Scott, College of Charleston volleyball player Cole Dawley, Samford volleyball player Hillary Fountain and UNC Greensboro volleyball player Kaitlyn Nortz.
