SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Junior Kyri Bye-Nagel of Davidson has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 7. Bye-Nagel helped the Wildcats earn two shutout wins in league play last week, as Davidson downed Samford (3-0) and Chattanooga (5-0). She becomes the first player to win the award twice in 2008.
Bye-Nagel recorded her fourth goal of the season in Friday’s (Oct. 3) win over Samford. She built upon that performance and scored Davidson’s first two goals in a 5-0 win over Chattanooga Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon. She ranks first on the team and is tied for second on the SoCon with six goals this year. Bye-Nagel is tied for second in the league with two game-winning goals and is tied for fourth in points (13). With six goals in 11 games this season, she is second in the league in goals per game (0.55).
Other top performers this week were Chattanooga’s Caroline DeRhodes, College of Charleston’s Erin Smith, Elon’s Alix Heinicke, Georgia Southern’s Danae Kaimuloa, UNC Greensboro’s Jenn Partenheimer, Western Carolina’s Shanna Schmoker, and Wofford’s Katie McChesney.
