College of Charleston Women's Golf Leads Stono Cup
Charleston, S.C. - Steffi Kirchmayr fired a one-under 71 in the second round to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team to first after 36 holes of the Stono Cup being held Oct. 6-7 at the Links at Stono Ferry in Charleston, S.C. The Cougars posted a 604 to sit 12 strokes ahead of second-place Wofford.
Kirchmayr totaled a 148 and is a stroke ahead of Wofford's Emily Hurt for individual medalist honors. Emily Rapp, who led after the first round for the Cougars, is third with a 150. Fiona Puyo is tied for sixth along with Leigh Whittaker after posting a 153 each. Gabi Zuber is 32nd with a two-round total of 166.
Courtney Brink is competing as an individual and is tied for eighth with a 154. Kati Scholten is tied for 14th with a 157 and in 42nd is Rachel with her 187.
The Stono Cup is awarded to the school with the lowest combined men's and women's team score. The College of Charleston has an 1195 to lead. Gardner Webb is second with a 1212.
The third and final round is a shotgun start beginning at 8:45 A.M.

Hurt, Wofford in second place after Stono Cup day one
HOLLYWOOD, S.C. -- Wofford freshman Sarah Hurt, fresh off her runner-up result at the season-opening Cullowhee Cafe Great Smokies Intercollegiate last month, continued her hot start to the season with a second-place score following day one action Monday at the Stono Cup at The Links at Stono Ferry in Hollywood, S.C.
Hurt, who came within a stroke of the medalist in her first collegiate tournament, again stands one shot back after posting rounds of 76-73--149 (+5) to trail host College of Charleston's Steffi Kirchmayr. Hurt's tally helped position the Terriers in second place in the team standings with help from two others in the top 10 after 36 holes on the par 72, 5,979-yard course.
Also among the top 10 for Wofford were senior Erin Wells and sophomore Alex Rankin in a tie for eighth. Wells posted a 77-77--154 (+10), while Rankin recorded an 81-73--154 (+10) to be among four players tied in the spot.
Sophomore Meredith Few nothced an 81-78--159 (+15) to tie for 18th, while Sarah Herbert rounded out the Terrier contingent with an 82-79--161 (+17) to place 22nd.
Wofford is 12 shots behind the leader, College of Charleston, in the team standings.
The 54-hole, two-day tournament will conclude tomorrow in conjunction with the men's event happening at the same time on the same course. A men's championship, women's championship and combined championship will be awarded following the end of play. Wofford currently ranks fourth out of the six eligible teams for the combined trophy.

Creed and Aidemark card rounds of 75 for UNCG on final day at Tar Heel Invitational women’s golf tourney
CHAPEL HILL, NC ? Sofia Aidemark and Erica Creed led UNC Greensboro with rounds of 75 in the final day of the Tar Heel Invitational at Finlay Golf Club on the UNC campus Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans finished 18th with a team total of 958, carding a round of 313 on Sunday. Wake Forest won the team title with a score of 876, 12 shots better than tournament host North Carolina. The Demon Deacons had three players in the Top 10 to coast to the win.
There was a three-way tie for the individual title between Wake Forest’s Jean Chua and Natalie Sheary and North Carolina’s Catherine O’Donnell. A playoff was not played between the trio who all finished the weekend at even par 216.
Both Aidemark and Creed enjoyed their best rounds of the tournament on Sunday. Aidemark, a junior from Sweden, had 13 pars to go along with four bogeys and a birdie for her round. Starting on No. 18, Creed, a sophomore from Kernersville, NC, was three under through eight holes, but a bogey on No. 8 and a double bogey at No. 9 brought her back to even. She finished out her round at three over.
UNCG returns to action next Sunday when the Spartans host the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic.

Furman Finishes 15th At Tar Heel Invitational
Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The Furman women’s golf team (315-303-316=934) posted a final round 316 to claim a 15th place finish at the Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Sunday.
Stefanie Kenoyer (75-70-77=222) and freshman Liz Wendt (81-74-77=232) each carded final rounds of five-over 77 to pace the Paladins. Kenoyer finished in a tie for 10th place after surging into fourth during Saturday’s second round on the strength of a two-under-par 70.
Wake Forest (294-291-291=876) cruised to a 12-shot victory over host North Carolina (299-297-292=888). Vanderbilt, Virginia and Auburn rounded out the top five. Demon Deacon teammates Jean Chua (73-73-70=216) and Natalie Sheary (71-70-75=216) finished in a three-way tie for individual medalist honors with North Carolina’s Catherine O’Donnell (74-72-70=216) at even par.
