College of Charleston Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Fourth at Palmetto

 

Kiawah Island, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's golf team fired a 320 in the third round to finish tied for fourth at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, held Oct. 27-28 at Oak Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.  Georgia State shot a 297 to take the title by seven strokes over East Tennessee State, which led the tournament after the first round.  The Cougars finished with a 924 along with Princeton.

 

Princeton's Susannah Aboff and Marlowe Boukis tied for first to take medalist honors with a three-round total of 224.

 

Fiona Puyo led Charleston with 54-hole total of 227 to finish seventh.  Steffi Kirchmayr tied for 15th with her 230 and tied for 27th was Emily Rapp with a 234.  Leigh Whittaker shot a 236 to tie for 34th and tied for 57th was Courtney Brink with a 243.

 

Three Cougars competed as individuals with Gabi Zuber leading the way, tying for 50th with a 240.  Kati Scholten finished 84th with a 259 and Rachel Pendergrass was 86th with a 261.

 

Charleston next competes Nov. 3-4 at the Challenge at Wolfdancer in Austin, Texas.

WCU Women’s Golf Concludes Fall Season with 13th-Place Showing at Palmetto Intercollegiate

Catamounts return to the links in February back at Kiawah Island

 

Cullowhee, N.C. ? Western Carolina conclude the fall portion of its women’s golf schedule with a 13th-place showing at the Palmetto Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 5,955-yard Oak Point Golf Course. The second round, which was suspended for darkness on Monday, was completed first thing Tuesday morning before the third and final round was played.

 

WCU had two golfers finish inside the top 20 as junior Desiree Karlsson posted her third top 10 finish of the fall with an eighth-place showing, four strokes off the pace at 228. The Ljunghusen, Sweden, native followed up her opening round 75 with rounds of 77 and 76 to lead the Catamounts. Freshman Blaire Minter wound up in a three-way tie for 20th with a two-day total of 232.

 

Minter led WCU ? and finished third overall ? with 36 pars in the 54-hole event, while Karlsson as just behind her with 35, tied for fifth.

 

Georgia State erased a six-stroke deficit in the final round with the tournament-low round of 297 to roar to the team championship by seven strokes first-day leader, East Tennessee State, 907-to-914. Washington State was third, 15 strokes off the pace at 922, followed by second-round leader, College of Charleston, and Princeton which were tied for fourth, two strokes in arrears at 924.

 

Princeton swept the top two individual finishers as teammates Susannah Aboff and Marlowe Boukis each fired identical scores of 224 to share medalist honors ahead of a four-way tie for third at 225.

 

Sophomore Josefine Sundh finished tied for 54th at 242, with freshmen Rachel Nelson (t-63rd, 246) and Ashley Shinn (88th, 263) rounding out Western’s finishers.

 

The Catamounts started the fall strong with a second-place showing at the Draper Valley Intercollegiate before claiming their sixth Great Smokies Intercollegiate team championship all-time. After the injury bug bit the squad, forcing junior Elin Mickelsson to the sidelines, WCU finished eighth-or-worse in the final three events of the fall to wrap-up the opening portion of its schedule.

 

Western Carolina returns to action in the spring back at Kiawah Island in late February for the Kiawah Island Women’s Intercollegiate at the Cougar and Osprey Courses. The Catamounts will co-host two events in the spring, including the Low Country Intercollegiate at Hilton Head, S.C., and the Mimosa Hills Women’s Intercollegiate at Mimosa Hills Golf Club in Morganton.

Wofford women's golf concludes fall campaign

FT. MYERS, Fla. -- The Wofford women's golf team ended its fall season with an 11th-place tying finish at the Pat Bradley Invitational on the par 72, 6,118-yard Pelican Preserve Golf Club in Ft. Myers, Fla., Tuesday.

Sophomore Alex Rankin finished as the top Terrier individual with an 80-74-81--235 (+19) to tie for 32nd. She was one of three on the team to shoot an 81 during the final round.

Freshman Sarah Hurt also posted an 81 on the final day and finished tied for 39th with teammate Sarah Herbert following a 79-77-81--237 (+21). Herbert carded a 77-74-86--237 (+21).

Senior Erin Wells led Wofford during the last 18 holes, placing 52nd after registering an 82-78-80--240 (+24).

Sophomore Meredith Few finished as the final Terrier in the field. She recorded an 82-80-81--243 (+27) to tie for 56th.

Host Florida International won the team title, while the Panthers' Belen Buendia and Paula Hurtado finished as the top-two individuals, respectively.

Wofford will resume action in the spring, Feb. 22-24, at the Cuthbert Cup at the Kiawah Island Resort in Kiawah Island, S.C.
