SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Samford’s Sarah Wilkinson has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 21-27. Wilkinson scored two of Samford’s three goals to help the Bulldogs claim wins on the road at Appalachian State (1-0) and Western Carolina (2-1) last week. She becomes the second Bulldog to win the award in as many weeks, as teammate Alyssa Whitehead garnered Player of the Week Honors a week ago.
In Friday’s match at Appalachian State, Wilkinson scored the game-winning goal in the 27th minute to lift the Bulldogs to the 1-0 victory. She scored in the first half of Samford’s 2-1 victory over Western Carolina Sunday afternoon. Wilkinson leads the Bulldogs with two game-winning goals this season and is tops on the team in shots-on-goal percentage (.750). She is tied for the team lead with four goals on the season.
Other top performers this week were Appalachian State’s Stephanie Balzano, College of Charleston’s Megan Manthey, Elon’s Katina Boozer, Furman’s Rachel Fry, UNC Greensboro’s Lauren Lopez and Western Carolina’s Kayla Beauduy.
