SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Appalachian State cross country runner Phil Mitchell has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Runner of the Week as voted on by the conference head cross country coaches, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Mitchell finished 12th overall and was the eighth collegian in a field of 220 at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open hosted by the Mountaineers. The junior finished the 8K in a time of 24:57 and led ASU to a fourth-place finish out of 26 teams. The award is Mitchell’s second of the season. He also won Runner of the Week for week four.
