SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Wofford’s Thomas Hunter has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 14-20. Hunter, making just his second start of the season, earned a shutout victory as Wofford defeated Furman, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.
The junior goalkeeper made eight saves to hold off Furman’s offense which outshot the Terriers, 20-10. It was Wofford’s first league win since 2005 and their first victory over Furman since 1982. Hunter’s eight saves were a career high. He had made only one start in goal prior to Saturday’s game, a 1-0 loss at Belmont in September.
Other top performers this week were College of Charleston’s Zach Prince, Elon’s Aaron Parker, Georgia Southern’s B.J. Reine and UNC Greensboro’s Corey Maret.
