DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Appalachian State University women's soccer team was unable to come back from an early deficit Thursday evening at Alumni Stadium, as the Mountaineers fell to Davidson 4-0. With the loss, Appalachian drops to 5-7-2 on the season and 1-5-1 in SoCon action, while the Wildcats improve to 8-3-3 overall and 6-1-0 in the conference.
ASU got off to a slow start in the first half and Davidson took advantage, as the Wildcats scored just two minutes into the match. Courtney Hart tallied her first goal of the season off an assist from Kyrie Bye-Nagel to give Davidson the 1-0 lead.
The Apps tried to respond, as Katy Dodd launched a shot and Christy Carry made a save, but Davidson's offensive assault continued, as Bye-Nagel scored her ninth goal of the season off an assist by Tracy McCausland to put the Wildcats up 2-0.
Davidson was not finished scoring, as Callan Elswick notched a goal to push the lead to 3-0.
Offensively for ASU, Paige Morrow had three shots, while Casey Cleary recorded two in the first half, but the Mountaineers were outshot by the Wildcats 14-9. Despite being outshot, the Apps earned six corners compared to DC's two.
The Wildcats took the 3-0 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Appalachian was only able to muster three shots and not able to get going offensively, while Tiffany Mumbly was able to get the Wildcats on the board once more, giving them a 4-0 lead.
The Black and Gold were unable to make a comeback and lost 4-0.
Morrow and Cleary paced the Mountaineers each taking three shots, while McCausland led the way for DC with five shots.
Caroline Clarke played the majority of time in goal for ASU, making seven saves, while Emma White also got in on the action. Both Carry and Loring Ward were active in goal for the Wildcats.
