SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro’s Kelsey Kearney has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 14. Kearney helped the Spartans earn two shutout wins in league play last week, as UNC Greensboro blanked Western Carolina (2-0) and Appalachian State (2-0). She went 180 minutes in net last week without giving up a goal, and has kept UNCG’s opponents scoreless the last 542 minutes of play.
Kearney joins Davidson’s Kyri Bye-Nagel as the only two-time Player of the Week winners in 2008. The freshman keeper made two saves in the win over Western Carolina before stopping five shots against Appalachian State Sunday (Oct. 12). Kearney leads the SoCon in goals against average (0.57), save percentage (.875) and is tied for the league lead with six shutouts this season. She has made 42 saves in 11 games for the Spartans.
