Lady Mocs? Newberry Selected Volleyball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga’s record-setting libero Lara Newberry has been named this week’s Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week as voted on by the conference volleyball sports information directors, the league office announced Tuesday.

 

Last Wednesday, Newberry broke the NCAA record for career digs in the Lady Mocs’ match against Samford. She now has 2,879. Newberry recorded 102 digs for the week as UTC went 2-1, with victories over Furman and Wofford. In the match against the Terriers, the senior recorded a school-record 51 digs in leading the Lady Mocs to a 3-2 victory.

 

Other nominees for this week were Samford’s Hillary Fountain, Elon’s Caroline Lemke, Georgia Southern’s Bethany Sanford, UNC Greensboro’s Catherine Hanners, Davidson’s Sarabeth Peele, College of Charleston’s Emily Sawin, Appalachian State’s Carla Durham, Furman’s Brooke Ellison, Western Carolina’s Liz Rondone and Wofford’s Brittany Thompson.
