SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Samford goalkeeper Cayley Winters has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Winters, a senior, has a 3.42 GPA in nursing at Samford. In two matches last week she allowed no goals and recorded six saves in helping the Bulldogs to a 1-0-1 record. The team defeated Elon 3-0 and tied UNC Greensboro 0-0. The Littleton, Colo., native played 194 out of a possible 200 minutes. 

Other nominees this week were Appalachian State volleyball player Heather Kale, The Citadel volleyball player Tatum Jestila, Davidson women’s soccer player Tracy McCausland, Elon volleyball player Sarah Schermerhorn, Furman football player Jordan Sorrells, UNC Greensboro volleyball player Branagan Fuller, Chattanooga volleyball player Courtney Barnes and Western Carolina volleyball player Katie Hennessey.
