SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina’s Lauren Powell was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week. This is Powell’s second time winning the award.  A standout on Western Carolina’s women’s basketball team, Powell has 3.8-grade point average and is majoring in Nutrition.

Powell, a junior from Asheville, N.C., averaged 13.7 points and two rebounds.  Powell was 47.4 percent from behind the arc and 45.7 percent from the field.

She had a season-high 18 points and tied her season-high for three-pointers with four in a win over Davidson.  Powell scored 15 points and shot 42 percent from the field against Appalachian State.
