Clemson, S.C.- Five Mountaineers traveled to South Carolina to take part in the Clemson Multi-Event Meet this past weekend. The meet, which only had the heptathlon and pentathlon as events, went quite well for the Apps, as they posted impressive performances.
On the men’s side, lone male athlete Matt Boruff competed in the heptathlon. After day one action, Boruff scored 2364 points to put him in ninth place. Boruff posted solid performances in the second day’s events as well. He closed out the meet with 4626 points, good enough for a sixth place finish and to move him up to second on ASU’s all-time list in the event.

The Citadel
The Citadel freshman Brian Baize set the school record in the men’s heptathlon, topping the four-year old mark set by Travis Taylor in 2004 as a small corps of athletes traveled to Clemson University for the JRF Multi Challenge meet.
Baize, a Clarksville, Tenn. native, scored 4,194 points in the seven-event competition as he finished 10th, competing against athletes from Appalachian State, Auburn, Clemson and Georgia. That mark tops the previous school record of 3,747 points set by Travis Traylor on Feb. 28, 2004 at the Southern Conference Indoor Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.

FAIRFAX, Va. ? Junior Will Funderburg claimed the individual title and set a new school record in the shot put to lead the Wildcat men tracksters to a third place finish at the Patriot Games on the campus of George Mason Saturday afternoon.
Funderburg bested the field with a throw of 15.31 meters, bettering his own record throw of 14.44 meters from a season ago. The Wildcats finished tied for third with Richmond after amassing 49 points. Host George Mason won the event with 128 points.
Junior Kwame Som-Pimpong also set a pair of school records in the competition. He bested his own record, 13.30 meters from last season, in the triple jump with a runner-up mark of 13.69 meters. Som-Pimpong also qualified for the finals in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.19 and finished sixth in the heat in a school-record time of 7.13.
The men also had strong showings in the distance events, as junior Thad Sieracki and senior Sam Morris turned in top 10 times in the 3,000 meters. A Davidson Top-10 performer, Sieracki finished sixth in 8:46.88, while Morris was 10th with a time of 9:04.05.
Junior Alex Hoyt took sixth in the 1000 meters with a Davidson Top-10 time of 2:34.06, and sophomore Blake Evitt did the same with an 8th place time of 2:36.10.
In the field events, freshman Bryce Jones earned a spot on the Davidson Top-10 performer list with a second-place showing in the pole vault with a mark of 3.65 meters.
The Wildcat men also finished first in the distance medley relay, as sophomore Peter Bruton, freshman Jonathan Koch, Evitt and Hoyt combined for a Davidson Top-10 performance time of 10:42.78.
The Wildcats will return to action next weekend, when they travel to the University of North Carolina for the Carolina Classic on Fri., Feb. 1.
Liberty On Track Open
UNC Greensboro
LYNCHBURG, VA ? The UNC Greensboro track team recorded eight top 10 finishes, highlighted by a second place finish from Andrew Clyne in the 1000m run, to conclude action at the Liberty On Track Open on Saturday.
The Spartan men recorded seven top 10 finishes on the day. Freshman Andrew Clyne led the way with a second place finish in the 1000m run with a time of 2:34.12 finishing five second behind winner Matt Cash from Mary Washington.
UNCG also had a good showing in the 800m. Terry Wyatt and Taylor Hurst finished third and fourth with times of 1:59.23 and 1:59.28, respectfully. Freshman Anthony Savoia, continued his excellent freshman campaign and finished in ninth place in the mile with a time of 4:35.60 while Ramon Jobson-Brown finished ninth in the long jump with a jump of 6.36m.
