SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Appalachian State sophomore guard GiGi Thomas has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for January 29.

Thomas averaged 20 points per game last week while hitting 67.9 percent (19-of-28) of her shots as the Mountaineers split a pair of conference games against Furman (Jan. 26) and Wofford (Jan. 28). The Tallahassee, Fla. native registered 23 points, five rebounds and four assists in ASU’s loss to Furman. Thomas then scored 17 points in the Mountaineers’ 92-79 victory over Wofford.

Other top performances this week were turned in by Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson, Davidson’s Mercedes Robinson, Furman’s Chrissy Phelps, Georgia Southern’s J’Lisia Ogburn, UNC Greensboro’s Brittany Frazier, Western Carolina’s Chevon Keith and Wofford’s Kelsi Koenig.
