ASU's Thorpe Tabbed Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ?The league’s track & field coaches selected Danielle Thorpe of Appalachian State as the Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

 

Thorpe, a sophomore from Durham, N.C., placed second in the long jump at the ASU Invitational in December with a NCAA provisional mark of 24-3.5 and placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 40-7.75.  She is currently ranked seventh in the nation.  At the East Tennessee State Niswonger Invitational, Thorpe was the top collegiate finisher in the triple jump with a mark of 40-11 and placed third in the long jump with a jump of 19-3.25.

 

 

Other Top Performers:

Raquel Ramseur, a senior from Western Carolina won the 400-meters at the ASU Invitational with a time of 55.71, which was just off her Holmes Center record of 55.70.  Ramseur placed sixth in the 60-meters and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay team.  At the East Tennessee State Niswonger Invitational, Ramseur had the second fastest qualifying time in the 400-meters and the fifth fastest qualifying time in the 200-meters.  She also anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay team.

 

Ramseur is ranked No.1 in the Southern Conference in the 200-meters, 400-meters and 4x400-meter relay team.

 

Demetrise Anthony, a sophomore from Georgia Southern, placed third in the 60-meters at the East Tennessee State Niswonger Invitational with a time of 7.69.  She is ranked first in the Southern Conference in the 60-meters and third in the triple jump with a jump of 40-0.  Anthony has a 3.29 grade point average.
