SPARTANBURG, S.C. ?The league’s track & field coaches selected Ricky Harris of Appalachian State as the Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
Harris, a junior from Durham, N.C., won the long jump at the ASU Invitational on December 7 with a NCAA provisional mark of 24-10.5. His jump is fourth best in the nation this year. At the East Tennessee State Niswonger Invitational, Harris placed third overall and was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with a jump of 24-4.5.
Harris also ran a 7.06 in the 60- meters and placed ninth in the triple jump with a jump of 47-7.75 meters. Harris’s marks in the 60- meters and triple jump place him in the top five in the Southern Conference.
Other Top Performers:
Dominique Young, a sophomore from Western Carolina ran 6.74 in the 60- meter dash at the UNC Joe Hilton Invitational. The time is a NCAA provisional qualifying mark, a new Western Carolina school record and the fastest time in the Southern Conference this season. At the East Tennesse State Niswonger Invitational, Young ran 21.54 for 200- meters which is second fastest in the Southern Conference. He is a member of Western Carolina’s top ranked 4x400- meter relay team.
