UTC Men?s Basketball Suspends Gwynne

Chattanooga men’s basketball has suspended sophomore forward Matt Gwynne for his actions in this past Saturday’s game at Davidson, Head Coach John Shulman announced Tuesday.  The suspension is for one contest and will take place for this Saturday’s game with Appalachian State at 3 p.m., in the McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga.

“There are standards in our program and we teach accountability for our actions,” said Shulman.  “Matt made a bad decision in a very physical contest.  We do not condone or teach that type of play.  He understands and recognizes the error in judgment.”

Gwynne is averaging 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game playing in 17 contests off the bench for the Mocs.

“The Southern Conference is in agreement with Chattanooga’s decision and applauds the institution taking responsibility to act in a swift and decisive manner,” said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino.  “We see no need for further action by the Conference office on this matter.”
