SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga senior forward Alex Anderson has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for January 22.
Anderson led the Lady Mocs to road wins over Furman and Wofford last week, averaging 22 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest. Against the Lady Paladins (Jan. 19), Anderson totaled 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. The reigning SoCon player of the year then notched her fifth double-double of the season against Wofford on Jan. 21 with 24 points and a season-high 16 rebounds.
Chattanooga (16-3, 8-0) currently sits atop the league standings and boasts the country’s third-longest winning streak at 11 games. The Lady Mocs will look to keep their perfect league mark intact when they host College of Charleston Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Other top performances this week were turned in by Appalachian State’s Brittany Mixon, College of Charleston’s Nikki Williams, Davidson’s Danielle Hemerka, Furman’s Lee Stephens, Georgia Southern’s Shawnda Atwood, UNC Greensboro’s Gini Grimsley, Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson and Wofford’s Kelsi Koenig.
