Appalachian State guard Donald Sims was named the Southern Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 20.
Sims scored a career-high 28 points in Appalachian State’s 92-83 victory over Chattanooga on Jan. 17. He followed the performance with 19 points in an 88-81 triumph over Georgia Southern.
For the week, the freshman averaged 23.5 points while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. He was 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from three-point range and made 6-of-8 (75.0 percent) from the free throw line.
The native of Gaffney, S.C. also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out eight assists and had two steals in the two contests.
Other standout performances were turned in by Stephen Curry (Davidson), Alex Opacic (Furman), Nicchaeus Doaks (Chattanooga), Jermaine Johnson (College of Charleston), Brett James (Elon) and Ben Stywall (UNC Greensboro).
