Anderson Earns Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games played from December 18 through 31.

 

The senior forward averaged 17 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest while leading the Lady Mocs to a 3-0 record over the past two weeks. On Dec. 20, Anderson filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four blocks and three steals in a key 86-81 win at Western Carolina in a rematch of last season’s SoCon Tournament final. Anderson then earned all-tournament honors at the UTSA New Year’s Classic after tying her SoCon season-high with 27 points on Dec. 30 against Miami (Ohio). The Stone Mountain, Ga. native also pulled down 14 rebounds against the RedHawks. In addition to topping Miami, UTC routed Weber State, 79-46, in the opening game of the tournament.

 

This award is Anderson’s third player of the week citation this year and the 11th of her career.

 

Other top performances this week were turned in by College of Charleston’s Brooke Kotcella, Davidson’s Danielle Hemerka, Elon’s Kitara McMoore, Georgia Southern’s Shawnda Atwood, UNC Greensboro’s Kemena Brooks and Wofford’s Liz Miller.
