Chattanooga’s Stephen McDowell was named the Southern Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 13.

In two games last week, the Indianapolis, Ind. native averaged 20.0 points and 3.5 rebounds while helping lead the Mocs to victories over UNC Greensboro (78-73 on Jan. 10) and Western Carolina (85-55 on Jan. 12.

The junior scored 18 points against UNC Greensboro and tallied 22 versus Western Carolina. He made 14-of-31 (45.3 percent) shots from the field and was 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from three-point range. The guard converted 1-of-2 free throws.

Other standout performances were turned in by Willie Powers (Georgia Southern), Stephen Curry (Davidson), Donald Sims (Appalachian State), Tony White Jr. (College of Charleston) and Brett James (Elon).
