SoCon Football Players of the Week

Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards (Greenwood, S.C.) was named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He accounted for 289 yards total offense and all four scores as ASU upset No. 5-ranked Michigan, 34-32. The sophomore completed 17-of-23 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 17 times for 62 yards.

 

Appalachian State defensive back Corey Lynch (Cape Coral, Fla.) was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The senior racked up 11 tackles and blocked Michigan’s attempt at a game-winning field goal in the final seconds to ensure a 34-32 Mountaineer victory. He has blocked four field goal attempts in the last eight games.

 

Wofford place kicker Patrick Mugan (Hendersonville, N.C.) was named Southern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. The junior was perfect on five PATs in Wofford’s 38-21 season-opening victory over Georgetown (Ky.) in Spartanburg, S.C. He also added a 28-yard field goal in Wofford’s victory.

 

Elon quarterback Scott Riddle (Ramseur, N.C.) was named Southern Conference Freshman of the Week. The true freshman set a school record with 33 completions in the Phoenix’s 28-13 loss at South Florida. Riddle finished 33-for-54 for 210 yards and one touchdown against the Bulls.
