The Furman volleyball team defeated Wofford in three games in their first Southern Conference match of the season Wednesday night.

In the first half of game one, the Terriers were able to keep the score close, until the Paladins pulled away to take the game 30-23.

Game two was another close one, but Furman was able to pull away in the last few plays to win by a score of 30-24.

Furman controlled game three from the start, thanks to a 5-point run by Chibuzo Aguocha at the service line. The Paladins quickly extended their lead to 21-8 before taking the game and match by a score of 30-12.

The Paladins’ offense was led by its middles, junior Nicole Palazzo and sophomore Emily Harby. Palazzo recorded 16 kills and only one error for a hitting percentage of .500, while Harby contributed 11 kills and a .444 mark. Senior Chibuzo Aguocha added 16 kills and 11 digs to the winning effort. Sophomore Stephanie Smith led the defense with 13 digs.

With the win, the Paladins improve to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the SoCon, while Wofford falls to 6-7 and 0-1 in the league. Furman will take the court again on Friday for their home opener against Georgia Southern.
