GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The Lady Paladins suffered a three-game loss to the Bucs of ETSU tonight.

After an hour-long delay in the start of the match, Furman came out strong in the first game, led by junior Alison West’s seven kills and sophomore Stephanie Smith’s 12 digs. However, ETSU outplayed the Paladins in the last few points, taking the first game 32-30.

In the second game, with the Bucs leading 20-12, the Paladins went on an

11-4 run to narrow the Bucs lead to 24-23. But ETSU answered with a run of their own, winning the second game 31-29.

Despite a close start to game three, with several tied scores, the Bucs pulled away late in the game, winning by a score of 30-20.

ETSU was led by Desiree Dyck’s 12 kills and libero Kaena Apana’s 25 digs.

Furman’s offense was led by West, who tallied 17 kills. Senior Chibuzo Aguocha recorded a double double, with 11 kills and 17 digs. Middle blocker Nicole Palazzo contributed eight kills and no errors for a .615 attack percentage. Smith led the Paladin defense with 20 defensive saves.

With the loss, Furman’s record falls to 6-3, while ETSU improves to 6-5.

The Paladins will take the court again next Wednesday, when they travel to Wofford for their Southern Conference opener.
