SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman’s Brooks Duff and Appalachian State’s Sean Sassano have been named the Southern Conference Co-Men’s Soccer Players of the Week after each of them led their respective squads to tournament championships over the weekend.

A senior midfielder and forward, Sassano continued his strong play of late with two goals and an assist while leading the Mountaineers (2-1-1) to the WKU Invitational title in Bowling Green, Ky. The Gastonia, N.C. native posted two goals in a 2-1 victory over IUPUI and notched an assist on the game-tying goal with just 52 seconds remaining in a 3-3 draw with Butler. Sassano has five goals through four matches this season and is currently ranked third nationally in both points per game and goals per game.

Furman’s Duff tallied one goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Presbyterian and followed that performance up with yet another one-goal, one-assist performance as the 22nd-ranked Paladins (4-0-0) downed Jacksonville, 4-1, to claim the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational championship. The freshman from Evans, Ga. is ranked in the top 10 nationally in points, goals and assists per game.

Other top performers this week include College of Charleston forward Kareem Yearwood, Elon forward Justin Wyatt and Wofford goalkeeper Joey Taylor.
