Southern Conference football teams will be featured on television 20 times this season, it was announced by Commissioner John Iamarino.
“As the premier Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) conference in the nation, we believe the increase in televised football games is a significant step forward for the league and its members,” said Iamarino. “In addition, our new partnership with SportSouth will increase exposure in the conference footprint and eliminate distribution problems we have experienced in the past.”
“SportSouth is proud to partner with one of the premier football conferences in the nation to televise six regular-season football games during the 2007 season,” said Jeff Genthner, senior vice president and general manager of FSN South and SportSouth. “SportSouth’s network-quality production will distribute Southern Conference football, including two-time defending NCAA Division I-AA Champion Appalachian State, to more than 8.8 million cable and satellite homes across six Southeastern states.”
SportSouth reaches 8.8 million cable and satellite subscribers across a six-state region comprised of Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and regions of central and western North Carolina. Through its affiliates and other Fox Networks Group-owned networks, FSN reaches more than 82 million homes through 22 regional networks. Headquartered in Los Angeles, FSN owned or affiliated regional sports networks serve as the TV home to 64 of the 82 MLB, NHL and NBA teams based in the United States.
In addition, Southern Conference teams will appear on ESPNU, ESPN360, College Sports Television (CSTV), Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and the Big 10 Network during the 2007 season.
Carson-Newman plays at Chattanooga on Thursday, August 30 at 7 p.m. on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) in the televised football game of the season featuring a Southern Conference team.
A year ago, Southern Conference teams appeared in 11 televised games during the regular season.
