Wofford and Western Carolina Earn NCAA Baseball Regional Invitations

Southern Conference tournament champion Wofford (30-31) and regular-season co-champion Western Carolina (40-18) have earned invitations to the NCAA Regional Baseball Tournament.

The No. 4-seed Terriers will take on homestanding South Carolina (42-18), the No. 1 seed on Friday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m. in Columbia, S.C. No. 2 seed North Carolina State (37-21) will play No. 3 seed Charlotte (47-10) at 7:00 p.m.

Action will continue on Saturday, June 2 when the first game’s losers square off at 2:00 p.m. with the first day’s winners playing at 7:00 p.m. in the double elimination tournament. Sunday’s game times are set for 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. with game time set for 7:00 on Monday, June 4, if necessary.

Wofford, the ninth seed in the Southern Conference Championship, won five consecutive games to win the school’s first baseball crown. Two weeks earlier, coach Steve Traylor had announced his retirement from coaching following the conclusion of the season.

Western Carolina, which earned a share of the Southern Conference regular-season title with a 20-7 record in league play, will play in the Chapel Hill, N.C. Regional. The No. 3 seed Catamounts will play No. 2 seed East Carolina (39-21) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1. Host North Carolina (48-21) will play Jacksonville (34-26) at 6:00 p.m.

Game times for Saturday, June 2 are 1:00 p.m. for the loser’s bracket and at 5:00 p.m. for the winner’s bracket. Sunday game times are 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3. If necessary, the final game will be played on Monday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m.
