Appalachian State’s Wes Hobson and Furman’s Matt Klinker Earn SoCon Baseball Honors

 

 

Appalachian State’s Wes Hobson was named SoCon Baseball Player of the Week and Furman’s Matt Klinker earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of May 21.

 

Appalachian State second baseman Hobson batted .619 (13-of-21) in four games last week with 12 RBIs and 13 runs scored. The freshman belted three home runs and four doubles in games against Radford and UNC Greensboro. Winston-Salem, N.C. native had seven putouts and 14 assists without an error. Other standout performances were turned in by: Justin Klinger (Georgia Southern), Matt Arnold (The Citadel), Chris Campbell (College of Charleston), Drew Davis (Elon), Nick Liles (Western Carolina), Ricky Orton (UNC Greensboro) and Eric Sturkie (Wofford).

 

Furman’s Klinker was named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week. The senior hurled a complete game in Furman’s 4-2 triumph over The Citadel on May 18. The West Chester, Ohio native allowed just three hits and struck out six. He threw just 88 pitches and retired the final 13 batters in succession while pitching his first career complete game. He faced just 29 batters in the contest. Other standout performances were turned in by: Brian Schlitter (College of Charleston), Jesse Lewter (Elon), Tyler Sexton (Western Carolina), Ryan Falcon (UNC Greensboro), Adam Kearney (Wofford), A.J. Battisto (Georgia Southern), Matt Webb (Davidson) and Chris McGuiness (The Citadel).
