Men's Tennis Results from Saturday

Appalachian State 4, Georgia Southern 2

April 7, 2007 - BOONE--Appalachian State University's men's tennis team improved to 5-3 in SoCon play with a 4-2 win over Georgia Southern at the Yohnalossee Racquet Club in Boone on Saturday.

ASU clinched the win by jumping up 4-0 on the Eagles. The No. 6 match was not played due to time constraints.

The Mountaineers (13-7) won the doubles point 3-0, but it was hardly easy. The Trent Constance-Peter Jacobs team gutted out a 9-7 win at No. 2 to improve to 7-1 in conference play. David Doverspike and Lee Floyd paired up for a 9-8 win at No. 3. Dimitar Dimitrov and Ryan Brookshaw drew first blood at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 victory.

Dimitrov started the Mountaineers off in singles competition with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3, his eleventh-straight victory in singles play. The senior from Sofia, Bulgaria is 16-3 overall and has outscored his opponents 36-13 in games over his past three matches.

Brookshaw put ASU up 3-0 with another straight-set win at No. 2. While Constance battled Joris De Weerdt to three sets on court one, freshman Peter Jacobs clinched the win for ASU with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory over Matthew Sands.

Constance and Lee Floyd would both end up dropping heartbreakers that afternoon, giving Georgia Southern two points too late.

Appalachian State will have a week's rest before their next contest. ASU will face Wofford in Boone on April 14 looking to earn their sixth conference win. Match time is scheduled for noon.
