Appalachian State 4, Chattanooga 3

April 7, 2007 - BOONE--After falling behind 3-0, the Appalachian State University women's tennis team won in singles No. 3 through No. 6 to claim a 4-3 comeback win over Chattanooga on Saturday.

The Mountaineers (9-12, 2-5) were propelled by their trio of freshmen. Lauren Holton, Amanda Cash, and Caroline Mauch all posted wins in the singles competition to lead ASU back. Mauch's victory at No. 6 snapped a personal five-match losing streak en route to clinching the win for Appalachian.

Junior Frances Blanton's victory at No. 5 set up the finish for Mauch.

Despite the Mauch-Holton tandem's dominating 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles, Chattanooga (6-14, 1-5) won the doubles point, besting Anja Gugger and Amanda Cash at No. 1 by an 8-3 score and topping the Monica Tomas-Blanton team at No. 2, 8-2.

UTC then took the first two matches of singles, and the day looked to end sourly for Appalachian, which had lost seven of eight heading into Saturday's match. By sweeping the bottom four singles matches, however, ASU was able to pull off its second conference victory of the season.

The Mountaineers finish out a three-match home-stand to end the season on April 10 and 11, when Appalachian State will host Wofford and Elon, respectively.
