MEN’S CO-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Manteo Mitchell ? Western Carolina

Sophomore ? Mooresboro, N.C. (Crest High School)

Mitchell won both the 200m and the 400m at the Western Carolina Invitational.

Mitchell's performance in the 400m broke a 23 year old WCU school record as he recorded an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 46.23.  He clocked 21.35 in the 200m into a -1.7 headwind.  Mitchell also ran the lead leg of WCU's 4 x 100m relay that finished in 40.79 and is a member of the WCU 4 x 400m relay team.  Mitchell leads the SoCon in the 400m and as a member of the two sprint relays.  He is also ranked second in the 200m by 0.01 second.

 

Anthony Greer ? Appalachian State

Senior ? Leland, N.C. (Hoggard High School)

Greer, a construction major, competed at the WCU Invitational and won the shot put with a NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 18.03m/59' 1.75". The put broke his own school record and ranks him eighth in the nation amongst collegians.

 

Other top performers:

Michael Mentz, Jr, Chattanooga (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Memphis) Mentz ran a personal best of 3:51.50 at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational.  He placed fifth out of 35 runners.
