SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference named College of Charleston’s Shannon Howard as the Player of the Week with Georgia Southern’s A.J. Street being named Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 2.
Howard, a sophomore from Carmichael, Calif., went 6-for-12 in the Cougar’s series sweep over Appalachian State this past weekend. She recorded a 1.583 slugging percentage, hitting a double and four home runs including two in the second game of the series. Howard knocked in seven runs and also posted a 0.00 ERA in 3.1 innings on the mound for the Cougars.
Street, a senior from Lilburn, Ga., completed 10.0 scoreless innings in the Eagles’ series sweep over Furman on Saturday and Sunday. She posted a 2-0 record for the weekend including coming to mound in extra innings in game two to pitch three innings and pick up the 1-0 victory. Street recorded four strikeouts and only gave up four hits in the series.
Other top performers for Player of the Week include Chattanooga’s Tia Blosser, Elon’s Paige Goss, Georgia Southern’s Katie Smith, UNCG’s Brittany Ausley and Western Carolina’s Lauren Ross.
