Spartanburg, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today named Appalachian State runner Meghan Gaffney as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 25.
Gaffney, a junior from Pompton Lakes, N.J., racked up 22 points for the Appalachian State University women’s outdoor track and field team at the conference championships last weekend, tying her for the most points by a track athlete and giving her the second-most overall female points. Gaffney took home two individual titles with wins in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 1,500 meter run. Her time of 10:46.40 in the steeplechase qualified her for the NCAA Regional Championships.
In the classroom, Gaffney holds a 3.97 grade point average and is majoring in Special Education. She is a member of the Academic All-Conference team.
