Furman Wins Women's Tennis Championship

Charleston, SC ? Furman’s Lauren Osborne made a come-from-behind win at No. 2 singles 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 to clinch a 4-3 win over College of Charleston in the final match of the 2007 Women’s Tennis Championships from the Earle Tennis Center in Charleston, SC. This marks the 15th title for the Lady Paladins and fourth straight.

 

Furman won the doubles point before clinching a 2-0 lead with a win from Co-Player of the Year Laura Gioia at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1. College of Charleston won at No. 4 singles before Furman picked up another win at No. 6 singles to take a 2-1 lead. College of Charleston’s Laura Borza topped Bonnie Baird at No. 3 singles 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to tie the match at 3-3 when Osborne won the third set to clinch the championship.

 

Osborne was named the Most Outstanding Player of the championship after winning her first two matches of the championship 6-0, 6-0 and then clinching the title with her win today.

 

Furman also receives the SoCon’s automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships, which will be announced on May 1.
