Spartanburg, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today named Western Carolina baseball player Tyler Sexton as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 19.

Sexton, a junior from High Point, N.C., allowed just one earned run in seven innings of work in the 5-2 victory over UNC Greensboro last Friday.  He tallied five strikeouts while issuing just one walk and giving up six hits.  Sexton sat down 10-straight Spartan hitters from the fourth through the seventh inning.  He boasts a 6-0 record in nine starts with 52.5 innings pitched.

Off the field, Sexton carries a 3.978 GPA and is majoring in Sport Management.
