Mt. Pleasant, SC ? Western Carolina shot a second-day 292 to edge Furman and College of Charleston en route to winning the 2007 Women’s Golf Championship at Patriots Point Golf Links in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.   This is Western Carolina’s second women’s golf title.

 

College of Charleston entered the round in first place, five shots ahead of Western Carolina. The Catamounts shot a 292 in the final round, led by Carland and Malin Fryk, who shot the low-round of the day with a 70. Fryk finished the tournament tied for third with College of Charleston’s Megan Miller, who was the individual leader entering the final round.

 

Furman’s Blair Lamb and Western Carolina’s Kandy Carland both shot a 71 on Tuesday to tie for the individual medal with a total round of 148. The two competed in a playoff, starting at Hole 1, which both shot par. Lamb then shot a par on the second hole with Carland shooting a bogey to give Lamb the individual title.

 

UNCG’s Ashley Parrott tied with Charleston’s Dinah Plyler at six-over par for a tie for fifth, with Corrine Carr from Furman and Desiree Karlsson from WCU tying for seventh. Rounding out the top 10 was a tie for ninth between Elon’s Samantha Widmer, Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmayr and Furman’s Kathleen Ekey.

 

Western Carolina receives the SoCon automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, which will be announced at a later date.
