Elon 5, Appalachian State 2
April 12, 2007 - BOONE--Elon defeated Appalachian State, 5-2, in the final match of the regular season for the women's tennis team. The loss drops ASU to 9-14 as the Mountaineers end the SoCon season 2-7.
Freshman Amanda Cash continued her personal hot streak in singles play, winning her fourth straight. With the victory, Cash finishes the regular season 5-4 in conference play.
Senior Anja Gugger played No. 1 for the Mountaineers and fell 7-6, 6-4 to the SoCon's third-winningest player, Deanna Bailey, in the most anticipated matchup of the evening.
After Elon (12-9, 6-3) had already clinched the match, sophomore Mallory Cook ended the night on a bittersweet note for ASU, pulling off a come-from-behind win in tiebreakers on court No. 6. The 5-7, 7-6, 10-8 match gave Cook a win in her only conference match this year.
The Mountaineers will next head to Charleston for the Souther Conferece Championships April 19-22, where they will try to improve on last year's semifinals run.
