March 27, 2007 - ASHEVILLE, N.C.--Appalachian State men's tennis won its third-straight match Tuesday, defeating host UNC Asheville 5-2.
Appalachian (10-5, 3-1) has won five of its last six matches. Tuesday's match marked the second time this season that the Mountaineers have won despite losing the doubles point.
ASU won five of six singles matches against Asheville (4-9). Senior Dimitar Dimitrov extended his winning streak to six straight in singles play, but his doubles winning streak was ended at four when he and Ryan Brookshaw were defeated at No. 1. Peter Jacobs bounced back from just his second loss of the year Monday and won in straight sets at No. 4, improving to 12-2 overall in singles play.
The win sets up a meeting of two teams having great seasons on Friday, when ASU hosts No. 44 Elon. The Phoenix are 15-2.

Clemson 6, UNC Greensboro 1
CLEMSON, SC ? Arsel Kumdereli earned a three-set win at No. 4 singles, but UNC Greensboro dropped a 6-1 decision to Clemson on Tuesday night in men’s tennis action.
Kumdereli defeated Carlos Alvarez to earn UNCG’s lone point of the night.
He lost the opening set, 6-3, but rallied to win the second, 6-2, and then won a 10-point tiebreaker, 10-3.
UNCG also earned a win on the doubles side when William Adeimy and William John defeated Alvarez and Gera Boryachinskiy, 9-7, at No. 3 doubles.
However, the Tigers won the other two doubles matches to earn the point.
UNCG returns to action on Thursday when the Spartans travel to face in-state rival Charlotte in the final match of a four-match road swing.
